Most airlines charge you for BOTH ways too! (It's terrible... but, whatever). So what I do is pack 4 bags (not everyone packs this much but if you are bringing supply, clothing, toys, etc. for 26 kids then yeah, you'll be checkin' 4 bags!). Split that up between how many people are going. For example, this weekend I have 4 bags and me and one other person going, so we each put 2 bags on our itinerary and pay for them AHEAD of time (airlines will charge more at the gate!). It is also cheaper to check 2 or less bags per person on most flight itineraries.
Since we are bringing stuff to the country and emptying our suitcases we only need to purchase 1 returning luggage for on the way back to the states. Now, you are probably thinking, "how are you bringing all your suitcases back?!" and the answer is simple: Russian Nesting Dolls... well, Russian Nesting Luggage.
We have one large suitcase, one medium suitcase, a backpacking pack (70L), and a large duffle bag. Once we have emptied all of these out we have empty luggage... which means we can put the duffle bag inside of the medium suitcase, the medium suitcase inside the large suitcase, and the backpack also inside the large suitcase. Leaving us with one large suitcase! Tu dah!
Also, make sure you don't go over your weight limit... that'll co$t ya!
In Him,
The Third World Girl
