Wrath of the Mosquitos

Alright people, if you have been to a jungle, the Caribbean, Africa, or even the good 'ole South you know that mosquitos are terrible insects that keep us from living a beautiful life!

Ok, maybe I am being a little dramatic. But seriously, mosquitos are the worst. Hopefully these tips & tricks will keep them away from your precious blood and keep you free from the wrath of the mosquitos.

1. #earthtonez - Did you know mosquitos are attracted to bright colors?! So strange, but they are. (Wish I would've known that in 2010 when I thought going to Haiti was my opportunity to wear bright Caribbean colors.) Try and wear earth tones - olive green, white, beige, brown, navy blue, etc. Stick a dryer sheet in your pocket too, they hate that trash.

2. Cover up - Seriously. The more skin you cover the better. Even if it is hot out, I will always try and wear pants to bed (I get bit more on my legs than arms). You know those trendy lightweight, pajama style pants that have elastic at the bottom by your ankle? Yeah, those are perfect! I got some for $13.00 at Wal-Mart. Wore 'em every night.

3. DEET - Shower in it. Just kidding. But seriously, get mosquito repellent that has LOTS of deet in it. Whoever tells you that you don't need a lot of deet is a liar (just kidding... but seriously, don't listen to them). I use Repel 100 from Wal-Mart. I recommend getting a big spray bottle and a travel sized one. They both have 98.11% deet!

4. Gahlic - Also known as garlic. Garlic pills have been used by many people and they say it works. I don't like to take a lot of pills and put stuff in my body while traveling (I know, I'm a hippie) so I have never taken them, but I hear they work! There are also garlic scented bracelets & anklets you can get here: http://www.amazon.com/Bellus-10-Pack-University-Water-proof/dp/B008MP72X8#

5. Malaria Medicine - Go to your doctor and get it. Then take it.

6. Smell Ya Later! - Unfortunately, mosquitos are also attracted to scents/fragrances/anything that smells good. So kiss your favorite smell goodbye and get some Tea Tree Oil. Mosquitos hate Tea Tree Oil. I get Tea Tree Oil Soap, Shampoo & Conditioner, and just the regular oil. I pretty much smell like it the whole trip. Tea Tree Oil is also good for healing mosquito bites!

Those are some tips and tricks I got. May the Lord protect you from all mosquito wrath in Jesus name!

In Him,
